The State Forensic Medicine Service Unveils New Visual Identity

The State Forensic Medicine Service (SFMS) has updated its brand identity. The aim of this change is to ensure a clearer, more modern, and publicly recognizable public image for the institution, while maintaining the professional integrity and trust that the institution has built over decades. The new visual identity was developed by combining respect for the institution’s history with a contemporary approach to public communication.

Responding to Contemporary Challenges and Striving to Represent Values More Clearly

The SFMS seeks to strengthen its visibility and appeal not only in the eyes of the public but also among potential future specialists. Since 2023, the profession of forensic medical expert has been included on Lithuania’s list of shortage occupations – a fact that highlights a systemic challenge requiring a long-term solution.

“Our main mission remains unchanged – to provide the highest quality forensic medical services, contributing to the assurance of justice. However, we understand that time doesn't stand still, and we aim for more young people to become interested in this unique profession. Our goal is to present the institution as modern, easily recognizable, and transparent – and to help the public better understand the vital role forensic medicine plays in the justice system,” states Valdemaras Sviackevičius, Director of the State Forensic Medicine Service. “This is our message this profession offers not only challenges but also deep meaning. We want to show that we are ready to grow and evolve together with the new generation of professionals.”

A New Logo as a Mark of a Clearer Identity Search

Perhaps the most significant change is the new logo. It features the Rod of Asclepius – a symbol depicting a staff entwined by a single serpent. In Greek mythology, it belongs to Asclepius, the god of medicine and healing. Today, this sign is universally recognized as a symbol of medicine and healthcare. In the new SFMS logo, the traditional staff is replaced with the letter “T”, while the serpent is stylized to form the letter “M”. This is a modernized version of the Rod of Asclepius, reflecting an allusion to the first letters of the institution’s fields of activity – “Teismo” (Forensic) and “Medicinos” (Medicine). Thus, the logo aims to emphasize the Service's core mission: to serve justice and public safety through science-based forensic expertise.

The visual identity changes extend beyond just the logo. The entire brand style has been updated: incorporating professional, trust-inspiring colors, new document templates, branded professional items, presentations, service markings, and more have been incorporated. These elements are designed to strengthen consistent SFMS communication and public presence – both within the professional community and among the general public.
