Forensic examinations in the State Forensic Medicine Service are performed by forensic experts who have the qualification of a forensic expert and are enrolled in the list of forensic experts of the Republic of Lithuania.

Forensic medicine is a branch of medical science that applies the knowledge of medicine and natural sciences to the activities of law enforcement agencies. Forensic examinations and expertise deal with examining and diagnosing persons who have been injured or died due to external or unnatural causes, such as poisoning, assault, suicide and other forms of violence. Forensic medicine examines the physiology of death, the cause and time of death and postmortem phenomena. It is a multidisciplinary branch that involves the practices of forensic pathology, forensic psychiatry, forensic dentistry, forensic radiology, and forensic toxicology.

Injured persons/victims for forensic expert’s examination must register in advance by phone. If the person arrives at the institution with a pre-trial investigation order or a court order, the expert examinations shall be performed free of charge. If the victim applies for a forensic examination in person, the fees and the procedure for payment for the services provided shall be indicated on the institution's website at https://vtmt.lrv.lt/en/services/ _ Prices for expert examination and other servises provided at the State Forensic Medicine Service (SFMS).

If the applicant is represented by an authorized representative, he must provide a document certifying the applicant's representation.
