The following forensic expertise is provided at the State Forensic Medicine Service (SFMS):


1. Of the deceased (determination of the cause and time of death, injuries, injury-making mechanism, manner and time, health impairment level, age of the deceased, etc.);

2. Of living persons (determination of injuries, injury-making mechanism, manner and time, health impairment level; cases of rape, sexual abuse, molesting actions, etc.; general incapacity for work caused by injuries, state of health, etc.);

3. Deontological (evaluation of determining diagnosis, treatment tactics and other issues, except for the cases of alternative (unlicensed) personal health care, mental health diagnostics and treatment and cases of odontology (the issues of dental treatment, prosthetic quality cases, etc.);

4. Toxicological:
Determination of:
4.1. Ethyl alcohol in blood, urine and other biological material;
4.2. Alcohol surrogates and other volatile poisons (methyl, propyl, butyl and amyl alcohols, acetone, ethylene glycol, etc.) in biological material;
4.3. Narcotic and psychotropic substances in biological material;
4.4. Medicinal substances in biological material;
4.5. Acids, alkalis, organic phosphorus compounds and other chemical agents in biological material of the deceased;
4.6. Carboxyhemoglobin and methemoglobin in blood of the deceased.

5. Serological:
5.1. Determination of human blood, sperm, saliva;
5.2. AB0 system blood type in stains;
5.3. Morphological examination of hair.

6. DNA:
6.1. Determination of the identity of blood and other tissues, secretions, hair, substances of biological origin (comparing the investigated object‘s DNA profile with a particular person‘s DNA profile);
6.2. Personal identification;
6.3. Kinship relationship (paternity, maternity, brotherhood, children's substitution, etc.).

7. Osteological:
Determination of:
7.1. Bone type dependence;
7.2. The number of individuals;
7.3. Sex, biological age, body length and other group and individual identification characteristics in skeletons, bone residues affected by high temperature or highly active substances;
7.4. Sceletization period/time;
7.5. Personal identification (by image comparison, odontological identification methods;
7.6. Determination of the individual‘s biological age according to visual material.

8. Medical criminalistics:
8.1. Determination of injuries and injury-making mechanisms in objects provided for examination;
8.2. Group dependency of the injuring tool, identification of the tool according to injuries in the objects provided;
8.3. Investigation of gunshot injuries (determination of the bullet entrance and exit wounds (holes), determination of the projectile diametre and type dependence, presence of additional shooting factors, their impact traces, determination of the shooting distance.

9. Determination of metal concentration in biological objects;

10. Determination of plankton diatomies in biological objects and in water from the water pool;

11. Determination of glucose quantity in blood plasma of the deceased;

12. Determination of glycogen quantity in biological objects;

13. Histological (determination of microscopic structure of biological objects and their dependence to a specific organ; abnormal changes, the time and nature of injuries; determination of characteristics indicating the period of changes, by using special staining techniques).

Note: At the applicants’ request, the SFMS shall prepare copies of official documents in accordance with the procedures established by legal acts of the Republic of Lithuania. A copy of the official document shall be made only after the applicant’s prior reimbursement of costs to SFMS for the preparation of the document, and when the proof of payment is provided.

Documents shall be prepared free of charge at the request of persons authorized by the state and municipal institutions, other institutions, enterprises, while performing their functions in accordance with the procedure established by laws or other legal acts.

Copies (up to five pages) of written, graphical A4, A3 format documents shall be prepared free of charge for applicants - social benefit recipients following the procedure established by the Law on Cash Social Assistance to the Deprived Persons, who have submitted the relevant supporting document.

Payment for forensic medical services performed by the State Forensic Medicine Service


Payment  for SFMS services for charge (State Forensic Medicine Service - SFMS) is conducted in accordance with the State Forensic Medicine Service Director’s Order V-107 “On the payment for the charged services performed by the State Forensic Medicine Service" of October 7, 2019,  by using the approved payment codes and payment receipts.

All natural and legal persons shall pay for SFMS services in accordance with the approved service fees: by the bank transfer, at the bank branches or other places where payment for services is available. At SFMS structural divisions located at Didlaukio st. 86E, Vilnius, and V. Kudirkos st. 99, Šiauliai, the payment for the services can be made by a payment card. The document - proof of the payment - shall be submitted upon the arrival at SFMS for forensic medical examination.

The payment receipt shall contain the following information:
