Prestigious International Conference Features Innovative Toxicological Method by SFMS Expert
From August 22 to 28, the 26th International Mass Spectrometry Conference (IMSC 2026) in Lyon, France, featured Tomas Asadauskas, a forensic expert from the Toxicology Laboratory of the State Forensic Medicine Service (SFMS). This annual event brings together analytical chemistry and laboratory research specialists from around the world.
Innovative Method for Combatting New Psychoactive Substances
During the poster session, T. Asadauskas presented a method he developed for identifying new psychoactive substances in biological samples, which pose growing challenges in the field of forensic toxicology. In developing this method, sample preparation and analysis processes were optimized to identify dangerous substances more simply and accurately. This work aims to supplement the toxicological testing conducted by the SFMS and expand the laboratory's capabilities in identifying increasingly complex psychoactive compounds.
Knowledge Update and International Cooperation
While attending the conference, the expert also participated in specialized training sessions. These sessions covered quality control in laboratory analysis, modern equipment solutions, and principles of data evaluation.
The event also provided opportunities for discussions with international specialists. Sharing experiences in solving practical analytical challenges allowed for a comparison of the solutions applied by the Lithuanian laboratory with the practices of other countries and helped establish valuable professional connections.
