Foreign Prosecutors’ Delegation Familiarized with Forensic Medicine Expertise

On September 9th, the State Forensic Medicine Service (SFMS) hosted a twelve-person delegation of prosecutors from abroad. The visit, organized in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania, took place within the framework of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) exchange program.

The foreign prosecutors were in Lithuania from September 8th to 12th. Their agenda included a visit to the SFMS to familiarize themselves with the Service’s activities and its crucial contribution to ensuring the effectiveness of the justice system – by conducting forensic examinations that serve as significant evidence in criminal proceedings. During the visit, which took place at the SFMS Vilnius Division, the guests were introduced to the processes of forensic examination and had the opportunity to observe a post-mortem examination. This allowed the prosecutors to see firsthand how autopsies are performed, how research material is collected and analyzed in order to determine the cause and circumstances of death.

The visit contributed to the exchange of good practices and the strengthening of closer inter-institutional cooperation. Such meetings provide opportunities not only to gain a better understanding of the working practices of different countries, but also help to build a strong international cooperation network that can significantly contribute to more effective investigation of criminal offenses and the implementation of justice in the future.
